    Knowledge Based Authentication Update:

Due to an increased focus on security and protection of client tax data, all signers must verify their identities using Knowledge Based Authentication before electronically signing the IRS efile Signature Authorization (IRS Form 8879). Our partner, ShareFile, which hosts our client portal and electronic signature service, uses IDology, a third party service to help perform this verification service. The use of your personal information for these purposes will have no effect on your credit report, credit score, or reporting to lenders. It is important to note that Zimmerman & Co CPAs does not control or enter the information used to verify your identity. To opt out, or to use a different method to sign your tax documents, or if you have any other questions, please contact our office.

United States Postal Service postmark changes:

Beginning December 24, 2025 the United States Postal Service implemented updates to how postmarks are defined and applied. The date now reflects when mail is first processed by the USPS, NOT when the mail was initially received. What that means in a practical sense is mail dropped off on April 15 at a USPS post office or in a mailbox may not be processed or postmarked until April 16 or later. If you are sending tax returns or payments using US Mail close to a filing or payment deadline we advise either:

    • Take the mail into a post office and request a manual postmark or
    • Use Certified Mail
