• Zimmerman and Co CPAs is seeking a Tax Manager to join our team and work with both our Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio offices.

    While we would prefer the tax manager reside in either Cincinnati or Cleveland in order to provide an office space (with coffee & conversation!), if the right candidate lives elsewhere we would expect this person to commit to frequent virtual communication and commuting for management meetings at least 4 times per year.

    While envisioned as a full-time position, for the ideal candidate we could design a reduced-hours schedule with off-tax season flexibility.

    Responsibilities:

    • Technical review of individual, corporate, partnership and trust tax returns in an efficient manner for accuracy and identification of tax savings opportunities
    • Assist management with designing and implementing efficient and effective tax planning strategies for clients
    • Communicate clearly with individuals and business owners throughout entire tax preparation and planning processes
    • Identify when research is needed and concisely frame issues to be researched; effectively perform technical tax research; document the analysis of research to support conclusions; disseminate to staff who need to be aware of the findings
    • Stay abreast of domestic tax law; recommend CPE for self as well as other staff members; present in-house staff summary of/training on tax law changes that will impact our client base
    • Manage tax engagements for 450-550 tax returns using workflow software, including tracking progress and re-assigning returns among staff based on individual competencies and deadlines; effectively communicate performance feedback and expectations
    • Manage business and individual tax extension process
    • Research and respond to various communication from federal, state and municipal tax authorities, including communicating resolutions to clients, preparing amended tax returns and follow-up as needed
    • Review tax procedures continuously and make recommendations for process improvements

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Minimum 4 years of recent tax experience in public accounting
    • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and through email
    • Willingness and strong ability to both learn and lead
    • Proficient in MS Office and comfortable working in a cloud-based environment
    • Proficient using tax research tool(s)

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • CPA or EA credentialed
    • Understanding of depreciation, financial statement presentation, and not-for-profit accounting
    • Creative Solutions’ tax and asset management suite software experience
    • Thomson Reuters’ Checkpoint experience
    • Workflow management software (Practice CS, OfficeTools Workspace, XCM, etc) experience
